Day 26/365 of Blogging Every Day - Dominic Brown's Historic 2013 First Half

Dominic Brown, what a god damn disappointment, well at least not during the first half of the 2013 MLB season. Let me set the stage for you here. Dominic Brown was drafted in the 20th round in the 2006 MLB Draft out of high school. He was originally going to play Wide Receiver at the University of Miami, but he switched when he saw his $200,000 signing bonus. After working his way through the Minor Leagues and catching a few invites to the Phillies Spring Training, by 2010 Dominic Brown was the 14th best prospect in all of the Minor Leagues.

2010 would be a great year for Dominic Brown as he would be named to Team USA in the futures All-Star Game. Brown would also make his Major League debut in 2010 playing in a total of 35 games, mostly as a pinch hitter. This was huge for the Phillies as the stars of the World Series teams were getting older and less productive. Brown was going to be the next big thing in Philadelphia. At the start of 2011 Dominic was named the number 4 prospect in all of baseball behind a fellow with the last name Trout, and the other being the one and only Bryce Harper. The Vibes in Philadelphia could not be higher as the Phillies won the NL East for the 5th time in a row to the tune of 102 wins. 2011 and 2012 seasons were plagued by lingering injuries, but when at full health, Brown showed the player he could be at his full potential.

2013 was the year of our lord and Mr Dominic Brown had a great spring training and won the starting left field spot on a Phillies team that was in a very steep decline. Don't you worry because Dominic "Downtown" Brown is coming to the rescue. After a little bit of slow start in April, Dom turned it up for the month of May to the tune of 12 home runs and a .303 batting average. This was good enough for not one, but 2 National League player of the week awards. Which was good enough to win the National League Player of the Month Award. At the All-Star break Dominic Brown had 23 home runs and a .273 average which was good enough to take him to his first All-Star Game. He was basically Jesus but in a Phillies uniform. The future was here and he wore number 9 and played left field. No way the Phillies stay at the bottom of the standings for the next 7 years. We have Dominic Brown and he is 25 years young and one of the best left fielders in the game.

Oh no, whats that coming back down to Earth, is that, could it be, oh my thats Dominic Brown. Sooooooo yeah, maybe Dominic Brown wasn't the future of baseball in Philadelphia like everyone thought. Downtown Brown would not even finish the season with 30 home runs after having 23 at the break. His bat turned into a wet newspaper at the plate when he only hit 4 home runs in the second half and all of his stats basically fell through the the floor. Maybe he could pick it up in 2014? Nope! Dom Brown hit a measly .235 with only 10 homers in 144 games. Maybe he was good at defense thought? Wrong again simple one, back to the tik toks of the girls shaking ass. Our hero of this story would be ranked the worst defensive left fielder in all of baseball.

Dominic Brown would be released by the Phillies at the end of the 2015 season. He would sign Minor League deals with the Blue Jays and the Rockies and would eventually go down south and sign with the Sultanes de Monterrey of the Mexican League. He would be out of baseball by the time he was 31 years old. Which coincidentally is about the age in which NFL wide receivers retire if he would have fulfilled his commitment to the University of Miami as a top wideout in the country.

The legend of 2013 first half Dominic Brown will be talked about for a long time as to what could have been. Share this with a former Downtown Brown believer to remind them of what could of have been.
